ARGENTINA made an ambitious attempt to hire Pep Guardiola as boss after their disappointing World Cup campaign.
Argentine FA chief Claudio Tapia admitted they enquired about the Manchester City manager but were stunned by his wages.
He said: “We enquired, it was a possibility, but we enquired. You have to have a big wallet, a large backing.
“It’s a lot [Guardiola’s salary] and we have to get loans for everything. We made consultations but it is very difficult, I am telling you the truth.
“We made an enquiry but we did not think it was so much. We tried to speak, but he stayed there.”
Argentina are without a manager after letting Jorge Sampaoli’s contract run out in July.
The South American nation were knocked out of the World Cup by France in the last-16 but only just made it out of the group stage despite their star-studded squad.
Guardiola has a brilliant relationship with Lionel Messi from their four seasons together at Barcelona.
